Impact's extensive projects for Mi'kmaq First Nations have resulted in a well-earned reputation for clear, compelling and highly memorable work. This, in part, is why the Wagmatcook Culture & Heritage Centre asked us to produce an informative -- and entertaining -- multimedia presentation that could cater primarily to Cape Breton tourists.
Our relationship with Wagmatcook is a mutually respectful one, in which both parties rely on each other's expertise: the Impact team for its fresh creative skills and the Wagmatcook marketing team for its rich cultural knowledge. The strong Mi'kmaq tradition of storytelling led us to develop a story of our own via the presentation. An important consideration was to keep the script tight and educational, yet not overwhelming to the audience. After all, we were editing thousands of years into a 15-minute presentation!
Anchored by traditional music, original illustrations and countless historical portraits, the presentation gives viewers a deep and moving picture of the Mi'kmaq people. Early ways of life, political struggles, arts and crafts, recent events and community development are depicted through an innovative mix of sound and vision, carrying the audience all the way to the present. We also created a matching website to assist Wagmatcook in drawing visitors to its newly refurbished centre, the first of its kind on a First Nations reserve. Launch Site
